Spray Tan Q&A

There is nothing like a spray tan to give you an instant pick me up! I always feel so good after I've had one, it gives you that summer feeling, makes you feel slimmer and just generally feel more confident. One of my new years resolutions was to do more things that make me feel good (which of course covered the usual, exercise and eating well) but small things like having a relaxing bath, sitting to read a book and self tanning also came under that list. So if you've never tried it, what are you waiting for?

I've put together some answers to the questions I get asked the most by clients in the salon when it comes to spray tans:

1. What brand do you use?
We use Kissed by Mii at the salon, which contains marine minerals in the tan so it has skin loving ingredients.

2. What colour options are there?
We have 3 shades of tan in a light, medium and dark so you can choose the intensity of your tan, you should always consider your own natural colouring though as tan develops with the natural melanin in your skin so if your not that sort of person to get a deep brown tan on holiday you won't get one even with the darkest of spray tan (that's also the reason your legs never seem to go as dark as the rest of your body).

3. Will I be orange?
NO! Don't get me wrong there's a lot of funny looking tans out there but we wouldn't use a product that made our ladies orange! Kissed by Mii tan has a lovely olive tone to it.

4. What do I wear, I'm embarrassed about my body?
Trust me when I say that as therapists we have seen it all! When we're spray tanning the only thing we're paying attention to is the tan on the skin and ensuring its is going on correctly, we don't notice the parts of your body your insecure about so please don't let it put you off. You can wear whatever your comfortable in, we provide paper pants or if you prefer you can wear your own. You can keep you bra on, take it off or even wear your bikini/swimming costume so it really is up to you. (obviously bear in mind your tan lines when choosing what to wear) The spray tan will wash out of anything you wear during or after, it doesn't stain. You will also be given a lovely shower cap to wear to stop it going on you hair!

5. What do I have to do after?
So after we've sprayed you, we will leave you to dry for about 5 minutes you can then get changed, bring with you something dark and loose fitting. Think about footwear too, flip flops are best, tight fitting boots not so much! You should leave it on for a minimum of 8 hours, preferably overnight. The tan will stop developing after a certain time so don't worry about leaving it on for too long.

6. Will it mark my sheets?
Well yes, but it doesn't stain it will wash out. I tend to wear pyjamas with long legs and arms to avoid too much going on the sheets and I will schedule my bed sheet washing around having my tan (for example don't change your sheets on a Wednesday if you always have a tan on a Thursday).

7. How long does it last?
It will last 5-7 days, one of the reasons we use this tan is due to the way it fades away gradually and doesn't cling as much to dry areas. You will always find it sticks more to areas like the elbows, knees or dry patches, but just ensure you exfoliate well after 5 days and it will come away easier. Moisturising daily with an oil free lotion will help to keep your tan looking fresher for longer.

8. How to prep?
Just make sure you come in with clean skin so no body lotion, deodorant (we will know when you armpits go green!!!) or perfume. Exfoliate the skin either the day before or the morning off. If your wearing make up you can always take it off once your at the salon.

So even though there's a lot of information here to digest it really is a quick and easy way to keep looking glowing and bronzed no matter what the weather, basically just turn up, do as your told and after a 30minute appointment at the salon your all done! Get booked in now and give it a go!
