How to layer your skincare...

Elemis have launched 2 new products to the range that has got me talking about layering skincare....

The skin is the largest organ of the body but its lazy! The skin should be able to cleanse, exfoliate, moisturise and all the rest by itself but due to age, stress and lifestyle etc, the skin needs constant stimulation and products to make it do its job. That is one of the main reasons we choose Elemis at the salon, rather than a product taking over the function of the skin Elemis products tell the skin what to do and make it work properly therefore actually improving the skins function.

What is layering?

Layering your skincare means to use different products, ingredients and most of all different textures on the skin to get various results and constantly keep the skin stimulated. There's a reason some products are oil, serums, creams, lotions... its because each texture has been designed in mind to do a different job or reach a different layer of the skin. So within your skincare routine you should look to layer different products and textures to get the most from your routine.
Elemis has launched 2 new products, one is a facial oil and the other is a serum so both these products could layered underneath your moisturiser to get specific results...

NEW Elemis Superfood Facial Oil

This new product from Elemis is something I was really looking forward to trying, I love using facial oils and think they benefit all skin types in some way. I have an oily skin type and find using a facial oil on an evening helps to balance the skin and prevent my skin from producing too much oil, whereas a dry/dehydrated skin will also benefit from a nourishing facial oil.

The Superfood Facial Oil contains a blend of 9 highly concentrated plant based superfood oils that are anti oxidant rich to feed and re balance the skin, leaving it feeling nourished, looking healthy and radiant.
The 9 superfood oils are:
Brocoli seed oil
Poppy seed oil
Cucumber seed oil
Macadamia oil
Rice Bran oil
Daikon Radish oil
Rosehip seed oil
Flax seed oil
Meadowfoam seed oil

You would apply 3-4 drops (I actually found this perfect for the evening but for daytime I used 2 drops) into the palm of you hand, press into the skin and massage in. Apply after cleansing and toning and before your moisturiser. If you were using a serum as well you could layer the serum over the top of the oil.

The Superfood Facial oil is available now and is £45

New Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Serum

This serum is a new and improved formulation of an older product. The serum works at resurfacing the upper layers of the skin to smooth and brighten the skin whilst also reducing the appearance of fine lines and pores.

The serum uses four flower AHAs from Hibiscus, White Lily, Gardenia Tiare and Freesia which have a non-abrasive resurfacing action. Mineral and vitamin-rich Selastin which has been shown to reduce the size of pores whilst anti-oxidant rich encapsulated Vitamin C and Amino Acids help to even skin tone.

I see so many clients that have really good skin but are concerned with open pores so layering a specific product designed to help with the appearance of pores means your skincare routine is becoming so much more tailor made to the individual concerns you have.

You would apply 1-2 pumps morning and evening after cleansing and toning the skin, avoiding the eye area. Then follow with your moisturiser. Due to the resurfacing action of this product it is essential you wear an SPF during the day to protect the skin from being damaged by the sun.

The Dynamic Resurfacing Serum is available now and is £85

Both these products are examples of how you can introduce different products and textures to the skin to get a specific result and depending on what the concern is will depend if you just use them for a few weeks as a boost or continue to keep them in your routine as standard.

Feel free to comment if you have an queries regarding layering products or the 2 new products I have mentioned.
