I personally have tried so many various things to
help keep my make up on all day, some of them have worked well and some
haven't. I don't believe anyone's make up can literally
last all day and look perfect from application to removal and don't believe
products that claim to last for 24 hours! However, I do feel that certain
things definitely make a difference and help keep my make
up on longer, I have a combination/oily skin type but all these tips
will work well for a drier skin too, it will just be the actual product used
that will differ depending on your skin type...
1. Create a base- Still so many
people I talk to think primers are a way of cosmetic companies making you spend
more money and they don't actually do anything but I have found them to make a
massive difference. Your make up will last longer, go one better and achieve an
overall more flawless look. This is where you should find one that suits your
skin type to counteract any problems your having with your skin.
You can get ones to control oil like the Bare Minerals Blemish Remedy. Ones to
help hydrate and illuminate such as the Elemis Pro Radiance Illuminating Flash
Balm. Or ones to smooth the skin like the Hourglass Veil Base.I apply
my moisturiser onto a cleansed skin, wait around 10 minutes then
apply primer and go straight onto applying make-up.
2. Application tools- This is all down to personal preference but I have always found that to use a brush rather than fingers to apply my foundation and then go over with a damp sponge like a beauty blender makes my foundation last really well. In general, the brush that goes with a foundation does tend to work the best as it has been designed with the foundation in mind. Try a couple of different techniques and see which one suits your skin best.
3. Set with powder- As I have oily
skin I would never be able to not use a translucent powder after
applying foundation and concealer. Even if you have a drier skin it will
help to set the base and stop it from creasing, go for a loose powder or an
illuminating powder for a drier skin though rather than a matte compact. The
Bare Minerals Invisible Light is a duo powder compact, the matte side can be
used on the t-zone and then the glow side can be used on the cheeks, forehead
and eyes.
4. Setting Spray- Such an essential when I'm doing a wedding make up, not only will a setting spray make the make up last longer it also seems to blend it all together and soften the whole look. It feels a bit odd as it does feel damp but just don't touch your face until its dried. My favourite is the Urban Decay Setting de-slick setting spray for oily skin but it is also available for other skin types.
5. Handbag Essentials- Even with all this
you cannot expect to look flawless ALL day, and touch ups are still needed even
if you only need to do it once half way through the day.
All I find essential is some concealer to go over
any areas where my foundation has worn away slightly which tends to be around
the nose and my chin, then go over again with a translucent powder to
make it all look freshly done again, reapply some lipstick and your good
to go!
Hope you find some of these tips useful to stop
that make up disappearing...
