Anti Ageing Tips for the Eyes...

One of the most common concerns I hear from my clients is regarding the eye area, either dark circles, puffiness, lines and generally looking tired. Obviously there is not a magic trick and prevention is better than cure but there are certain things you can do and things you definitely shouldn't do to help fight ageing in this area.

1. Go Gentle- The skin around the eye area is so much thinner than the skin on the face which is one of the reasons its the first place to show signs of ageing, this means it should be treated with care so no rubbing or pulling the delicate skin. Use your ring finger when applying your eye products, make sure you use a gentle pressure and don't overload the eye area with product. A grain of rice is a good guide for the amount of eye cream needed for both eyes and don't feel you have to go right up to the lashes, apply product around the eye socket (where you can feel the bone).

2. Pick Appropriate Products- As with all skincare think about your eye area concern and pick a product designed for that. Eye products are designed specifically for the delicate eye area and really are worth investing in. If its to generally keep the eye area hydrated and to start to prevent ageing go for a hydrating lightweight serum such as the Elemis Absolute Eye Serum. If its for lines and wrinkles, go for the Elemis Pro Collagen Eye Renewal Cream. For lifting and firming its the Elemis Pro Definition Eye and Lip Contour Cream. For a more intense boost you can layer products, again the same as on the face so for instance the Elemis Pro Collagen Advanced Eye Treatment, which is a serum can be layered underneath the Pro Definition Eye Cream to target lines and lack of lift. Also booster masks are a great pick me up for the eyes the Elemis Hydra Gel Eye Masks are a perfect pre-party boost to look fresh and awake and provide amazing hydration.

3.Massage- Dark circles are the result of poor circulation and is where the blood vessels are more visible due to the thinning skin. Therefore increasing circulation and bringing fresh nutrients to the surface of the skin will make the eye area look brighter and fresher and lighten the dark circles. Massage is the best way to do this so when applying your eye products use the ring finger and do gentle circles around the eye area and almost tap the product in to stimulate the skin and help absorption of the product.

4. Sleep and Rest- This sounds so obvious but if your eyes aren't resting properly they will look tired and more aged. If you have restless sleep, insomnia, are on certain medications, suffer from health problems, stressed or spend all day looking at a screen your eyes are going to suffer. Even though  there aren't any magic cures I can tell you to resolve all these things, try and bear it in mind. So drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated, try to keep screen time to a minimum and be more on top if your eye-care if you've had a particularly bad week.

5. Lighten and Brighten- To help cover dark circles the best thing is a light reflecting concealer. This will bounce the light off the eye area. Choose a lightweight texture concealer so it doesn't crease into lines such as the Bare Minerals Stroke of Light. If you find your under-eye concealer isn't light enough or you don't tend to wear any other make up, mix a small amount of the concealer with your eye cream to make it tinted.
