Holiday Skincare Survival Tips

The sun and being away on holiday can play havoc with the skin, the change in weather, water, and travelling can leave the skin out of sorts, so here's a few ways to keep it all under control.

1. Use a specific face SPF- As these are made to be used on the face they often contain extra benefits for the skin and will help prevent the skin from feeling "overloaded" as the texture is often lighter. Go for a high factor of 30 or above to help prevent sun damage.

2. The 30 minute rule- This is such a common mistake, if you apply your sun cream whilst sitting out in the sun you won't be fully protected for 30 minutes, so it's best to apply as soon as you get up before going out and bare this in mind with re-application. Look out for sun creams that say, "broad spectrum UVA/UVB" as these offer full protection.

3. Keep up with the hydration- lots of water plus lots of moisturiser is the perfect combo for keeping your skin hydrated whilst away. Use a richer night cream on an evening, and a hydrating mask such as the "Elemis Exotic Cream Moisturising Mask" to moisturise to the max!

4. Calm and soothe the skin- The "Elemis Skin Nourishing Milk Bath" is my must have holiday product, I use it in the shower, apply it as an after sun to the skin and put it through my hair to prevent it drying out. It really calms, soothes and hydrates the skin without feeling heavy or thick. (The only downside to this product is that its huge! 400ml is far too big for my case so I always decant this into a smaller bottle for travelling) I even keep it in the fridge so its cool when I apply it as an aftersun. The "Elemis SOS Emergency Cream" is also great to soothe the skin after being in the sun or if you've been bitten or burnt.

5. Cleanse the skin more often- A micellar water is great for holiday to keep the skin cleansed throughout the day, the chlorine in the pool, sweat and suncream will mean the skin needs to be cleansed more often. Wipe over the skin with micellar water and re apply your face SPF throughout the day.
6. Beware of the scrub- Using an exfoliator on the face or the body is best kept to pre and post holiday, if you've been out in the sun your skin can be delicate so keep it moisturised but leave the exfoliating until your home.

Hope these little tips help you prepare for your holidays and keep the skin in tip top condition!
