The brand has developed and evolved so much since we starting stocking the range in the salon, the last 2 years especially, the foundation/base range has really grown so I thought I would do a breakdown for you to see the difference and pick which one would suit you best. All of the Bare Minerals Foundations are £26 and all brushes mentioned are £24. I always wear a primer under any of these foundations as I feel it lasts longer and provides a smoother base for application, I also always 'set' my foundation with the Bare Minerals Mineral Veil again I feel this makes it last longer.
Original- Loose Formula
This is THE original Bare Minerals Foundation, probably what most people think of when they think of a "mineral foundation" I must admit that even though I use the other foundations I will always have this in my make up bag and it still is the one I go to for most of my bridal make up, a natural, weightless finish, build able coverage and so easy to apply!
- SPF 15
- Natural Luminous Finish
- Weightless
- Sheer to Full Coverage
- 8 hour wear
- Promotes healthier skin
- Best brush to use: Full Flawless Face Brush
Matte- Loose Formula
This is very similar to the original, its a loose formula and is applied in exactly the same way. This formula has added ingredients to give a more matte finish and helps with open pores. We don't currently stock this foundation in the salon only because I feel the new Blemish Remedy foundation (see lower down) is better for anyone with a more oily skin type and don't feel the need to stock both, still a great foundation though in the range.
- SPF 15
- Natural Matte Finish
- Weightless
- Good for people who prefer a matte finish
- Sheer to Full Coverage
- 8 hour wear
- Proven to minimse pores
- Best brush to use:Full Flawless Face Brush
Ready-Compact Formula
This is a compact mineral foundation which is a little less messy! This foundation was designed for people who prefer a fuller coverage. This is good for me for lazy days, I can use this to get full coverage quickly without having to "buff" as much, unlike the loose formulas that do require a "buffing" onto the skin to build up that coverage. This foundation isn't as luminous as the original but does have added ingredients to improve hydration on the skin.
- SPF 20
- Natural Weightless Finish
- Medium to Full Coverage
- 12 hour wear
- Improves hydration levels in the skin
- Best Brush to use: Precision Face Brush or Full Flawless Face Brush
Bare Skin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation
This was Bare Minerals' first liquid foundation and contains no nasty ingredients found in other liquid foundation, no oil, no parabens, no preservatives so its so much better for the skin! I have quite an oily skin type so personally find the brightening element of this foundation not really suitable but I use it alot on people with a drier skin type and gives a really nice finish, this can be "layered" as with the other foundations to build a full coverage.
- SPF 20
- Great for people who want to use a mineral make up but prefer liquid
- Sheer to Full Coverage
- Proven Brightening Effects
- Best Brush to use: Perfecting Face Brush
Complexion Rescue Hydrating Gel Cream
This is amazing! Its classed as a tinted moisturiser but personally I feel it has much more coverage than others, I use this on its own when I went a very light barely there look or I layer it underneath the original formula to create such a lovely natural full coverage look.
- SPF 30
- Dewy Finish
- Sheer to Medium Coverage
- Improves Hydration on the skin
- Best Brush to use: Apply with fingertips for a light finish or use Smoothing Face Brush for a fuller coverage
Blemish Remedy- Loose Formula
This is the newest foundation and contains tea tree and aspen bark to work as actual skincare aswell as a make up, it conceals and covers better so is great if you suffer from breakouts and oily skin. I haven't found this foundation as easy to apply as the original but I feel the results are well worth taking a bit longer on application, as someone with an oily skin I love the matte finish (but doesn't look dry as some matte finish foundations do)
- NO SPF
- Matte Finish
- Great for anyone suffering from blemishes, congested, oily, problematic skin
- 8 hour wear
- Best Brush to use: Seamless Buffing Brush (this is the brush that was made to go with the new foundation, its nice but personally I found it too small and the bristles are quite compact which does give a fuller coverage but I found I couldn't blend and buff aswell with it and just took too long so personally I have preferred using the Full Flawless Face Brush
Brushes:
Full Flawless Face Brush:
Precision Face Brush
Perfecting Face Brush
Smoothing Face Brush
Seamless Buffing Brush
As with all make up its always better to try it on, I would always recommend getting a proper shade match, which we offer in the salon for free and I know most Bare Minerals stockists do. Due to the different formulations all the foundations have different colours so its always better to be matched.
Hope this has helped if your looking to try a new foundation!
